on January 24, 2009, some mighty fierce winds blew around here, mighty fierce, like a hurricane. Trees broke, motorcycles fell right over, all kinds of stuff got damaged; people were hurt, a few were killed by collapsing walls, falling trees.
We knew it was windy, but it just didn’t seem that bad. Maybe that was because, in spite of the wind, there were Barcelonans sitting around eating on park benches and having coffee outdoors. They do love to go out here. We went out and walked around and saw some of the aftermath. Tree carcasses on these steps by the MNAC museum. Behind these limbs, there were some fountains that the limbs had cracked, and wather was trickling out the sides.
